What Is WorkSource Washington?

WorkSource is a state-run job and career support system. It’s built to help people get back to work, learn new skills, and start stable careers in growing industries like trucking.

The program is part of the Washington State Employment Security Department and includes:

  • Local job centers
  • Career counseling
  • Workforce grants
  • Tuition support for approved training programs like New Sound CDL School

If you qualify, WorkSource will pay your full tuition to attend New Sound CDL School. No loan. No income share agreement. We’re talking about a fully-covered tuition at no cost to you, directly through the program.

Why Does the State Pay for CDL Training?

The simple answer: Washington needs truck drivers.

CDL jobs are in high demand! And trucking is considered an essential occupation, with good pay, long-term job stability, and lots of openings. State and federal programs have money set aside to help people move into careers like this, especially if they’re unemployed, laid off, low-income, young adults, or switching fields.

One of the most common funding sources for WorkSource is called WIOA—the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. It’s a federal program that provides grant money to help people get trained and working. WorkSource helps Washington residents apply for WIOA funding and other programs.

There’s a Good Chance You Qualify for Free CDL Training

How to Apply for Free CDL School in Washington

The process to apply for a CDL school grant is simple and will only take about an hour of your time. There are many different ways to qualify for the WorkSource grant, so don’t let your doubt discourage you from trying.

If the cost of CDL school is stopping you from pursuing a career in commercial driving, take these steps:

1. Register here to attend a WorkSource orientation session.

Note: This session is geared towards Russian speakers, but the staff also speaks English. We recommend this session for everyone because this team processes grant approvals much faster than the general sessions—sometimes by weeks or even months!

2. Attend the session in person.

When: Wednesdays, 3:30pm-4:30pm
Where: WorkSource Pierce
2121 S State St #300, Tacoma, WA 98405

3. At the session, tell them that you want to enroll in New Sound CDL School.

They will collect your information and start the process of determining your eligibility. At that point, we’ll be notified and will work with them to direct you with your next steps.

Don’t go to a school that cuts corners with your training, because you’ll be the one paying the price in the end.

Here’s what makes New Sound CDL School the gold standard:

Washington’s Highest Pass Rate

Our students are more prepared and more confident on test day than any other school’s. With a first-time pass rate over 80%, your CDL success is a near-guarantee.

Experienced Certified Instructors

Job Placement Support

Our close relationships with local and national carriers are a goldmine for our students. While many of you will get hired without our help—thanks to the strong demand for CDL drivers and our school’s great reputation—our team will step in and help you any way we can if needed.

What If I Don’t Qualify?

The reality is that not everyone will get approved for a WorkSource grant. Not to fear, that’s where our other financing options come in. We’ll work with you to find a solution that fits your situation best, including payment plans that can typically be paid off within the first few weeks of working your new CDL job!
